Associate Dean, Academic Programs

campus

The University of Utah, College of Nursing, presents an exciting opportunity for an individual, with a doctorate in nursing or a related field, to fill the role of Associate Dean, Academic Programs beginning in July 2008. The College enrolls 600 students in strong, established nursing education programs and newer, innovative programs. This key senior position provides leadership in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all academic programs in the College of Nursing. The Associate Dean supervises an Executive Director for Undergraduate Programs and an Executive director for the MS and DNP Programs as well as the Manager of Student Services.

The College offers generic and accelerated baccalaureate programs, an RN-to-BS completion program, a masters program, and two doctoral programs. In Fall 2007 a new post-master's Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program admitted more than 30 students from a competitive pool of applicants. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in nursing is among the oldest in the western US. The cutting-edge nature of program delivery includes a PhD focus for oncology students delivered through synchronous learning sessions to students throughout the country. In addition to these academic programs, an interdisciplinary gerontology program resides in the College of Nursing.

Program content for College of Nursing programs is delivered using both on-ground and distance education techniques. The College of Nursing has recently started to offer graduate programs and deliver courses through the U Graduate Center at Dixie State College located in the southwest corner of the state. On-campus students receive their education in a student-centered, technology loaded, interdisciplinary Health Sciences Education Building opened only two years ago. Numerous interdisciplinary initiatives add to the richness of student experiences.

Academic programs are supported by an online application and admission notification system. Courses are evaluated through web-based programs and grades are posted electronically. Additional electronic support for faculty and students is continuously being added to this technology-rich environment. Personnel support student recruitment, financial assistance, advisement, centralized course management, and student services.

The College of Nursing is a research intensive institution and has been successful in obtaining numerous grants from government agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, Department of Labor, Department of Health and Human Services, and leading foundations. The College of Nursing is one of nine institutions receiving Hartford Centers of Excellence in Geriatric Nursing in the US and one of the first VA Nursing Academies in the country.
