Tenure-Track Faculty Position
Nurse Ethicist


The University of Utah College of Nursing, in conjunction with Intermountain Health Care (IHC) System, is seeking a nurse with expertise as an ethicist who could hold a joint appointment between the two institutions.

Criteria for Appointment

This position requires doctoral preparation, and both clinical and academic experience. The candidate must hold a Utah RN license, or be eligible for such. Candidate must possess demonstrable knowledge and formal education in clinical ethics; positive interpersonal and problem-solving skills; as well as an ability to facilitate conflict resolution. Some experience in conflict management and/or leadership of a hospital committee or other health care-related committee or organization is preferred.

Appointment to a faculty position requires that the candidate have a publication record in the field, or current work in progress and the potential for obtaining extramural research funding. The role with the College of Nursing will be negotiated based on the candidate's ethical/clinical research interest and expertise.

Description

The nurse ethicist will be a member of the faculty in the College of Nursing, as well as a member of the University of Utah School of Medicine and IHC Corporation Division of Medical Ethics. S/he will participate in the Division of Medical Ethics' activities that include teaching, clinical consultative services, research, and serving as a resource to administrators and policy makers. The nurse ethicist will also participate in developing and implementing programs and conferences on health care ethics for health care professionals and community members. In this role, the individual appointed will also work collaboratively with patients and families, health care professionals, committee members, community agencies and resources, and others involved in the missions of the IHC Urban Central Region and the University of Utah College of Nursing.

The Nurse Ethicist reports to both the Dean of the College of Nursing and the Chief, Division of Medical Ethics, LDS Hospital and the University of Utah School of Medicine.
